Underactuated Robotic Finger Prosthesis for Partial Hand Amputation (2018)
Lab for MARCH, Center for Intelligent & Interactive Robotics ,Korea Institute of Science and Technology
(IDEA 2019 FINALIST)
Each year in Korea, hospitals treat around 120,000 people who accidentally cut off one or more of their fingers.
In many cases, doctors can reattach the severed appendages.
But sometimes mistakes and delayed medical treatment result in fingers being lost for good.
When this happens, patients are forced to move on with their lives, and they forget the feeling of moving the fingers they lost.
Prosthetic fingers are available, but rehabilitation can be difficult.
That is what makes Re-Finger, which replicates finger movement by interpreting the body’s EMG signals, the ideal solution.
When patients visualize moving their missing fingers, it stimulates certain hand muscles they never realized they had before.
Re-Finger interprets these muscle signals and replicates patients’ finger movements accordingly. a a a Re-Fill This device serves to refill the patient’s lost part. Therefore, we have an image of the liquid being replenished. a a a a a
